Burn-to-DVD

Recently, XBIZ World magazine asked a group of industry leaders, "Do you think that burn-to-DVD is the next killer app for the adult industry?"

Here's what they had to say:

"I don't really have a straight answer since it depends on how fast technology advances. I think it will do really well for a couple of years as an option to store content and view content later, multiple times. Flash cards and drives keep getting cheaper, smaller and store more. If you need more space, toss it on a hard drive where you can access it online anytime. Everyone is looking to downsize and simplify. I personally hate DVDs or anything extra I need to carry around. But I love my iPod, PSP and MDA cellphone."
— Roger Vadocz, CEO, PornoPushers.com and ContentPushers.com

"I believe burn-to-DVD will be a killer app for online adult as well as mainstream. With Internet connection speeds increasing, surfers are going to be able to download high-quality, full-length movies to enjoy them on large screens, along with the benefits of a fully produced DVD such as scene selection, menus, quality and size. It should become a favorite feature for many buyers. I believe many studios will use this technology for easier distribution as well. I am sure most of adult and mainstream will be watching to see how Vivid does with its new model."
— Quinn, Owner, PimpProfits.com

"You will always find people online or offline that will pay for a DVD with the box cover and all, but the market will follow the most cost-effective solution with the quickest turnaround on delivery, with the best DVD/HD quality affordable."
— Rob Hoover, Affiliate Manager, XonDemand

"I don't believe burn-to-DVD will be the hot new app in the adult simply because it hasn't reached the mass market yet. Most people are still in the CD-burning era and will be for at least another year or two. While DVD burners are becoming the new norm, it will take some time to hit critical mass with consumers and until then, it will probably remain a fad."
— Charles Michael, CEO, Wired 2000 Corp.

"I think it is a great application and if the delivery system is easy to use and the end users are able to pick and choose what they want to add to a DVD — for example, their favorite scenes of various movies — then it would be a significant addition to any DVD sales or adult site. Anything that advances and takes advantage of emerging technologies is significant in that it is utilizing those technologies. Once we start playing with them, we will find new and better ways to expand the possibilities of that application. But, no, I don't think it is the next killer app for our industry."
— Dan Hogue, "CamZ_Dan," Owner CamZ.com

"Yes and no, actually, but for the moment, no. Burning porn to DVD can be quite time consuming from my knowledge. To be honest, I don't know if surfers have the patience for it. It's a great idea, though, and with time, as we find a faster solution, it will be a must on every porn site."
— Irrum, Marketing and Sales, SexBankRoll

"I'm sure burn-to-DVD will be a useful additional feature for certain types of existing sites and a main attraction for some new sites. It is always a good idea to offer your surfers extra functionality, even if only 5 percent of them care about a particular feature. Part of the appeal of viewing adult entertainment online is that it is not stacked up in their house. Pixels on a computer screen don't clutter the bedroom, don't require an extra bookcase to hold them, and are a lot less likely to be accidentally discovered by an industrious significant other, maid, or houseguest."
— Amelia G, "Chick-in-Charge," Blue Blood's SpookyCash.com

"This is just another clever marketing tool to snag the surfers interest. If the surfer wants something bad enough, he's going to get it — and usually for free — regardless of whether you offer this feature or not. So, in this case, why not get him to pay for it and make a buck? However, I think it's clear that PPV and VOD stand to gain the most from this type of feature."
